The Basset Fauve de Bretagne (Tawny Brittany Basset) at 12"-15" tall and 25-30lbs, is one of the smallest French hounds and is rarely seen outside of France, expect in Britain and now in the U.S.A. Developed in the 1800's, it descends from the larger Griffon Fauve de Bretagne, the Basset Vandeen, and other Basset breeds. The Basset Fauve is a wire-coated, lively, friendly, hunter of small game. Traditionally hunted in packs of four, it is now often hunted alone or in pairs.
In November 2001, Aahroo Kennel imported the first Basset Fauves to America. To protect and responsibly promote the Basset Fauve de Bretagne we helped form the Basset Fauve de Bretagne Club of America in 2010.
